DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

“Life is divided into three terms – that which was, which is and which will be. Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present, to live better in the future.”

The History Department at Clarence High School comprises of highly experienced faculty members – Mr. E. J. Joyson, Mrs. Ipsita Chaudhuri, Mrs. Suji Chandy, Mrs. Christina Divyaraj and Mrs. Elizabeth Abraham, the head of the department.

History is taught from classes 5 to 10 and continues at the ISC level, by choice, as well as in the NIOS stream.

Activities and Events:

The Department organises programmes during Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations at school. As a part of this programme, students showcase the rich heritage of our country, and also emphasises on the facts that human actions, choices and prolonged struggle results in the creation of Indian History.

The Department also organises the Model United Nations, popularly known as CLMUN, which has carved out a special niche in the hearts of MUNers all over Bangalore.

What makes the CHS History Department so unique:

The faculty members are passionate about the subject as they bring to life the chronicles of the past, generating curiosity among the students with a variety of pop quizzes, videos, role-plays, graphically illustrated PPTs etc. Healthy and constructive discussions are encouraged among the children to develop a national and global understanding of history and awareness of events.

“History is WHAT happened way back WHEN.

It is WHO made it happen.

It is WHERE we started. History is WHY something

happened and HOW we have learned from it. History teachers at Clarence create the interest and enthusiasm to find answers to these questions among the students.”

Mrs. Elizabeth Abraham

Subject Convenor
