It has received eight Jnapeetha Awards, and Shri Vinoba Bhava praised its script as the “Queen of world scripts.” Kannada is phonetic: you write what you speak and read what you write. Reverend Ferdinand Kittel even wrote a dictionary for Kannada, the only Indian language to have this distinction. Today, Kannada thrives with a vibrant literary tradition, encompassing both classical and contemporary works, reflecting Karnataka’s cultural and linguistic diversity.
The Kannada Department at Clarence High School is led by Mr. Venkanagouda Patil and includes esteemed faculty members Mrs. Agnes James, Mrs. Nirupa Vinuth, Mrs. Bindu Vincent, Mrs. Preethi A, and Mr. Sadashiva Davalagi.
The department is on its toes with the various events spread throughout the academic year.
The department hosts events such as the Kannada Inter-House Public Speaking program and Kannada Rajyotsava festivities. Through these events, students showcase Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage and have the opportunity to display their talents in the competition.
