AGENDA: DISCUSSING THE EFFECT OF SACRIFICE ZONES.
Humanity has always disenfranchised itself. War, terrorism and viciousness are all too common, but they aren’t extent of the issue. The subtler dehumanisation in neglect hasn’t been fought against with the same fervour. Now the degradation of the environment, and the further encroachment of rights once considered unassailable are becoming larger problems than plain hostility. Political and financial incentives have continued to cause irreparable harm to communities who have done nothing wrong. Policies to sacrifice neighbourhoods are being enacted at a greater frequency than ever, without any consideration for the affected. Evicting someone requires legal process, should filling the air and soil around their homes with toxins require the same? Where does the line need to be drawn? When do the environmental and financial consequences of a policy require intervention on behalf of those affected and how should that aid arrive?
Presenting to you, the European Council.
