1910s to 1920s

  • 1 December, 1914 Clarence opened as ‘Fraser Town European Day School’ with 17 students.
  • 1914-1918 Ms. W. Fuller joined as the Headmistress of the School.
  • 1918-1926 Ms. Winifred Allan took over the baton, as the Headmistress of the School.
  • 1920 A new land was purchased for the school, where the current school building stands.
  • 29 October, 1920 Inauguration of the first School Sports.
  • December, 1920 The foundation stone of the first school building on the new campus was laid.

1921s to 1925s

  • 1921 The dedication of the site for the new school building; consequently, construction began.
  • 19 December, 1922 The new school buildings were instituted by the Resident, Sir William Barton, and Mrs. Barton.
  • 23 February, 1923 The school reached 100 students, and a holiday was granted.

1930s to 1950s

  • 10 October, 1931 The new principal, Mr. Wilcox dedicated 20 long years serving as the Principal between 1931-1951.
  • 1932“Clarence School Property Trust” was registered.
  • 18 January, 1934 Class 8 began under Mr. E. Hobday, B.A.
  • 1942 A melodious and meaningful School song was composed by G.C. Rogers.
  • 1948 The Clarence High School playground (Assaye Field) was granted to the school on a perpetual lease.

1950s to 1960s

  • 1951 Mr. A.C.A. Flack became the Principal of Clarence High School and dedicated 32 long years towards building a world class educational institution (1951 -1983).
  • 1952 Ms. Emma Horton joined as KG Superintendent.
  • 3 November, 1955 Mr. Alfred Redwood laid the foundation stone of Redwood House, to be built for Classes 10 and 11.
  • January, 1956 Students on roll reached the 400 mark!

1960s to 1970s

  • 20 October, 1963Mrs. Grace Tucker launched the Wilcox Extension.
  • 1964 Golden Jubilee Year! Grand celebrations were held and a building was dedicated to commemorate this remarkable milestone.
  • 1964 Mr. Flack initiated the Building Fund.
  • January, 1969 ICSE curriculum began for Class 9.

1970s to 1990s

  • 1976 The Kindergarten Block opened, dedicated to the Horton family, through the donations of the relatives of Ms. Emma Horton.
  • 1983-1987Mr. David Coates dedicated 4 years to serving as the Principal of the school.
  • 1985 The Flack Auditorium was unveiled to the delight of the school members and students.
  • 1987 1993 - Mr. M.T. Thomas, served as the Principal for 6 faithful years.
  • 1988 The Coates Library was established and received with much joy by all members of the staff and students.

1990s to 2005s

  • 1993-2013 Mr. Benny Joseph served as the Principal of Clarence High School for 20 distinguished years.
  • 1993 The inception of the William Carey Block.
  • 2004 The Stewards Block was inaugurated.
  • June, 2004 Commencement of The Special Education School for our special needs children.

2005s to 2020s

  • 2008 The Centenary Block was established.
  • 2014 - 2024Dr. Jerry George Mathew was inducted as the Principal and served the school faithfully for 10 years.
  • 2014 The Centenary Year of Clarence High School! This phenomenal milestone was celebrated with a series of events and the dedication of a building to mark the occasion.
  • March, 2016 The Trust was renamed as "Clarence Educational Trust".
  • 2017 Clarence High School became a centre for the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and is now accredited as both a Study Centre and an Examination Centre.

2020s to 2025s (1 of 2)

  • June, 2022 Clarence Kindergarten was set up to introduce the Montessori system of teaching children in the age groups of 3 years to 5 years.
  • September, 2022 Inauguration of the newly renovated office in the Wilcox Block.
  • February, 2023Inauguration of the Clarke Road campus. A state-of-the-art facility for new Montessori Environments and play areas.
  • May, 2024Renovation of the 1st and 2nd floors of the KG Block was completed. As a part of the upgrade, new classrooms, a staff room, separate restrooms for boys and girls, a server room and a store room were added.

2020s to 2025s (2 of 2)

  • May, 2024The first floors of the Centenary Block were renovated to include modern classrooms, staff rooms and restrooms. The existing Principal’s residence was converted into ISC classrooms, a staff room and an ISC girls’ restroom.
  • December, 2024Clarence High School celebrated its 110-year milestone with special events and the release of commemorative postcards and stamps, honouring over a century of faith, learning, and legacy.
  • 2024 - 2025Mrs. Ruth Krupala Manoj, an alumna, parent and long-serving educator, became the first lady Principal of Clarence High School. Retiring after 21 years of dedicated service, her leadership was marked by excellence, compassion and a deep commitment to the Clarence community.

2025s

  • April, 2025Renovation of The Centenary Block Terrace. This 1,500 sq. ft. multifunctional space, designed for student and staff activities, features PUF roofing, EPDM flooring and enhanced facilities, a thoughtful addition to support holistic learning at Clarence.
  • June 2025Carey Block Upgraded. The William Carey Hall was converted into a modern, air-conditioned multi-purpose space serving as an exam hall, event venue and classrooms for Classes 11 and 12. Further enhancements to the Carey Block included a new staff room and a biometric-access lift.
  • September, 2025The Reimagined Coates Library was redesigned by alumna Mrs. Anna Robson Browne. First inaugurated in 1988 by former Principal Mr. David Reginald Coates, the renewed library blends heritage and innovation, standing as a testament to faith, excellence and lifelong learning.
