The Mathematics Department is made up of a dedicated team of teachers who collectively bring over 100 years of teaching experience. We are committed to ensuring a smooth progression of mathematical concepts from Prep to Class 12, following the ICSE and ISC syllabi. This consistent effort is reflected in the excellent results our students achieve every year, with many securing distinctions and even centums in the Board Examinations.

Gone are the days of “chalk and talk.” Mathematics classes at Clarence now include quizzes, puzzles, exhibitions, PowerPoint presentations and educational videos, making the teaching and learning process engaging and enjoyable.

Mathematics plays an essential role in everyone’s daily life — be it a cook, farmer, carpenter, mechanic, shopkeeper, doctor, engineer, scientist, musician or even a magician. This real-world relevance is reflected in the projects assigned to our students, which include activities such as home budgeting, running a tuck shop to calculate profit or loss, exploring symmetry in nature, identifying mathematical patterns in art and nature and working with tessellations and tangrams, to name a few.

Participation in competitive exams such as the, International Mathematics Olympiad and the National Level Science Talent Search Examination (NSTSE) is an integral part of the mathematics curriculum. We believe that such opportunities enable our students to excel in future competitive examinations and develop confidence in applying mathematical skills in various contexts.

Catering to the needs of the ICSE & ISC Syllabus (6-12) as well as the NIOS Syllabus (6-12), the Chemistry Department at Clarence High School is handled by an expert team consisting of Mrs Divya CS, Mrs. Naina Chougule, Mrs. Prema Daniel, Mrs. Madhubala Zambre, Mrs. Sheeba Sharon under the leadership of Mrs. Soumya Jacob. They are assisted by Mrs Anthu Mary. Creative and innovative teaching methods make the learning of Chemistry, a fun experience in the school.

Facilities, Activities and Events:

Clarence High School has a well-equipped laboratory which boasts of equipment like glassware, centrifuge, desiccators, Kipps apparatus and even porcelain apparatus.

The school also has a Demonstration Room where the middle school has demo classes based on the concepts taught during the week – this certainly lends to learning. The senior classes have demo classes here before they go in for hands-on experience in the laboratory.

Students take part in the Science Olympiad every year conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) and this experience enables them to develop a love for the subject. Exhibitions are yet another occasion when our students experiment with elephant toothpaste, colour cabbage juice and lemon volcanos as well as working models like citrus batteries.

Clarence High School’s Physics Department is outstanding – qualified teachers deliver the concepts of the subject proficiently to the students of classes 6 to 12 of all streams – ICSE, ISC and CIC. The team of teachers, consisting of 5 members – Mrs. Tony Alex, Mr. Roy Abraham, Mrs. Ramola Rebeiro, Mrs Karuna Singh and with Mrs. Roopa Fernandes as the Subject Convenor. They are assisted by an efficient lab assistant – Mr. John Peter. Various teaching strategies like lectures, demonstrations, audio-visual aids, etc. are used in the classrooms to promote learning for all students. Our teachers also serve as external evaluators for the Board Examinations conducted by the ICSE, ISC and CIC streams. This exposure enables them to prepare the students for the Examinations in the best possible way.

Facilities, Activities and Events:

Our well-equipped laboratory houses equipment in optics, mechanics, acoustics, magnetism and electronics.

Students are given opportunities to participate in the Science Olympiad every year which is conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). They also participate in the National Science Talent Examination. The students of classes 6, 7 and 8 prepare working models to score marks in their internal assessment and this enables them to acquire hands-on experience of the concepts they learn in class. Science Exhibitions, conducted occasionally, provide students with yet another platform to prepare working models, charts and creative PowerPoint presentations.

What makes the Physics Department unique?

We are proud to say that our experienced faculty gives its best to the students and has succeeded in developing an excellent rapport with them. The teachers have instilled a love for the subject, in their students. The laboratory has all the devices required to practically demonstrate the various concepts taught, thus helping the students imbibe an understanding of the most difficult concepts. There are also various working models like the AC generator, DC motor, Fortin’s Barometer, sinusoidal wave and elevators that help in teaching abstract concepts better.

The school is always blessed to have an excellent batch of students who develop a keen interest towards the subject – this makes the teaching-learning process a cake walk for the teachers as well as the students.

The General Science and Biology Department comprises of 8 teachers, teaching a range of students from STD 3 to STD 10. The teachers are up to date with their portions and the syllabus is completed on time. Preparation of question papers is equally distributed among us. The teachers prepare powerpoint presentations and use other forms of visual aides to make their teaching interesting. Corrections are up to date as well. Scrutiny of books is done on a regular basis. Textbooks are updated as and when required. Project work is given to students which are graded and the marks are used for tests and exams. Worksheets are done for important topics. We meet often to check the progress of the syllabus, question paper pattern and preparation, topics for projects and other.

The Biology Laboratory

The Biology Laboratory has a sizable collection of well-preserved specimens ranging from butterflies, nests, eggs, birds and models of various organs of the human body. There are a large number of visual aids and exhibits. A well maintained aquarium adds to the charm.The laboratory is equipped with permanent slides of variety of organisms, tissues and cell processes which help students appreciate the structural and functional complexities of life.

Today’s world is a place where knowledge keeps growing and Clarence High School is catering to the knowledge hungry minds of its students. The School has three Computer Labs and these Labs are equipped with the latest computers with internet access and are all networked to suit the needs of the students. The computers run on the Linux platform . The computer ratio is maintained at 1:1, providing all students the opportunity to work on programming platforms . Each student is given a personal login to work. Every Lab is well equipped with a projector to demonstrate the use or working of the topic in progress.

The teachers are committed in making sure that the students do numerous programs so that they are well prepared to face any question. Overall the teachers encourage each student to learn as well as love the subject.

Computer Laboratories

The three Computer Laboratories are well equipped with the state of the art computer systems, with the required hardware and software to help students gain a high level of competence. Computer Education begins from Class one. In addition, all the students from Standards 3 to 10 have computer general awareness classes in which they learn various programs in MS – Office 2000, Pagemaker and MS Publisher.

The school has two streams of computer students. Students who have chosen Computer Science as their 6th Subject from Standard 9 upwards and those who have chosen Computer Science as their elective in the I.S.C.

History is taught from classes 5 to 10 and continues at the ISC level, by choice, as well as in the NIOS stream.

Activities and Events:

The Department organises programmes during Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations at school. As a part of this programme, students showcase the rich heritage of our country, and also emphasises on the facts that human actions, choices and prolonged struggle results in the creation of Indian History.

The Department also organises the Model United Nations, popularly known as CLMUN, which has carved out a special niche in the hearts of MUNers all over Bangalore.

In this special scenario having a national language or a language which can be spoken by all the people of India is very important. Hindi is the 2nd most spoken language in the world after Mandarin Chinese. It is part of one of the oldest religious and literary traditions in the world.

So it is very important for every citizen of India that he / she can speak Hindi. Communication with the common man of other states of India is possible only through Hindi.

In Clarence high school we consider Hindi as an important part of school curriculum. Presently we have Hindi as a second language from STD- 3 to 10 . In Hindi department we have 5 full time teachers who work tirelessly as a team to improve the standard of Hindi of our students. We help students to learn this language easily and interesting. Every year in the month of October we conduct HINDI PUBLIC SPEAKING for students from STD-3 to 10. For this we invite 3 Judges from other schools. This competition includes poetry, jokes, speech and debate. The school magazine THE CLARENCIAN has a section for Hindi. Students take a lot of interest to write articles in Hindi for the same. We are also planning to have few items in Hindi for CLADS to encourage and provide opportunities for our students.

Currently three teachers of the department are taking part in the ICSE board paper valuation. By doing this they update themselves with the changes and other activities of the Council.

French was introduced as a second language choice in the year 2013-14. It began with one part time faculty teaching the language from the alphabets upwards to the first batch of Std 8 students. Since 2016-17, French is offered also to KG , Junior and Middle Schools. The response has been very encouraging, with the 101 students out of 160 of the last graduating ICSE batch (16-17) having opted for French in Std 8. Currently students learn French from Std 2 and up. Students from Std 4 to 10 have written article in French in the School Magazine released this Year. The French Olympiad conducted this year has successfully sent Clarencians in to the national round, results awaited. ICSE results so far by the grace of God , have been cent percent. 3 of the 4 overall school toppers of 2016-17 were French students

Music classes provide the perfect avenue to develop an appreciation of this fine art from a very young age. Children with an aptitude for singing and music are encouraged to join the school choir. The school choir performs at a number of important school functions including the annual prize distribution ceremony. The school brass band plays an important role at the annual sports.

Music is an important part of the learning experience at Clarence High School. Music classes are conducted, as a part of the curriculum, for all Students from Kindergarten to standard 5. The School has three Choirs (Kg, Junior and Senior) which actively take part in events both in school as well as outside. Various programs during the school year provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and skill in Music.

Choir clubs are conduced as part of the extracurricular activities at school. Students who join are trained vocally and are taught to sing in harmony.

The Music Academy offers music lessons, after school hours, in a variety of instruments namely; Classical Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Percussion, Violin and Voice. Keyboard lessons will soon be available for kindergarten students. The Academy also offers to train students interested in giving Music exams.

Clarence Special Needs department has developed and follows specialized instruction curriculum for students with mild to moderate intellectually disabled children. Children are grouped under three groups based on their level of functioning. The academic subjects that we follow include Functional Academics, Daily Living Skills and OBE (Open Basic Education) under NIOS syllabus.

Group 1 –

Functional Academics and Daily Living Skills are taught in this level. Functional academics are designed to teach children to live independently where pre-requisite concepts in Maths, English and Science are being taught. In the special needs world, the most basic skill is the Daily living skills. Activities of daily living such as dressing, grooming etc. are taught with the help of individualized Education Program (IEP) to the children with special needs to achieve some independence and learn the skills they will need for their adult lives. IEP is constantly reviewed and revised according to the child’s need. Our special educators strive to provide meaningful activities geared to the needs, interest and desires of each child.

Group 2 –

Pre Vocational Skills are taught here to this group. Children who find it difficult to continue academics are trained in pre-vocational skills. Our curriculum, on pre- vocational skill focuses on fine motor, gross motor, stacking, matching and sorting.

Group 3 –

Children who are capable of studying structured syllabus are motivated and encouraged to follow Kindergarten and NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) syllabus. Clarence integrates children with special needs into the mainstream which is helping children to socialize and gives them a chance to interact with peers from the mainstream environment.

The procedure followed here at the Special School is mainly auditory and visual. The aim is to use Music as a tool in working towards cognitive development and to better its function. Music is more powerful in all senses compared to any verbal procedure therefore these sessions are designed in such a way that Music has the upper hand and communication follows whenever necessary.

Facilities, Activities and Events:

Clarence High School has a well-equipped laboratory which boasts of equipment like glassware, centrifuge, desiccators, Kipps apparatus and even porcelain apparatus.

The school also has a Demonstration Room where the middle school has demo classes based on the concepts taught during the week – this certainly lends to learning. The senior classes have demo classes here before they go in for hands-on experience in the laboratory.

Students take part in the Science Olympiad every year conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) and this experience enables them to develop a love for the subject. Exhibitions are yet another occasion when our students experiment with elephant toothpaste, colour cabbage juice and lemon volcanos as well as working models like citrus batteries.

The faculty of the Department of Chemistry is dedicated to providing each of our students a high-quality educational experience. The goal of the Department is to integrate the knowledge and understanding of Chemistry with hands-on training and the use of modern instrumentation, to make their basics clear and also to help them answer application related questions.

Clarence High School’s Physics Department is outstanding – qualified teachers deliver the concepts of the subject proficiently to the students of classes 6 to 12 of all streams – ICSE, ISC and CIC. The team of teachers, consisting of 5 members – Mrs. Tony Alex, Mr. Roy Abraham, Mrs. Ramola Rebeiro and with Mrs. Roopa Fernandes as the Subject Convenor. They are assisted by an efficient lab assistant – Mr. John Peter. Various teaching strategies like lectures, demonstrations, audio-visual aids, etc. are used in the classrooms to promote learning for all students. Our teachers also serve as external evaluators for the Board Examinations conducted by the ICSE, ISC and CIC streams. This exposure enables them to prepare the students for the Examinations in the best possible way.

Facilities, Activities and Events:

Our well-equipped laboratory houses equipment in optics, mechanics, acoustics, magnetism and electronics.

Students are given opportunities to participate in the Science Olympiad every year which is conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). They also participate in the National Science Talent Examination. The students of classes 6, 7 and 8 prepare working models to score marks in their internal assessment and this enables them to acquire hands-on experience of the concepts they learn in class. Science Exhibitions, conducted occasionally, provide students with yet another platform to prepare working models, charts and creative PowerPoint presentations.

What makes the Physics Department unique?

We are proud to say that our experienced faculty gives its best to the students and has succeeded in developing an excellent rapport with them. The teachers have instilled a love for the subject, in their students. The laboratory has all the devices required to practically demonstrate the various concepts taught, thus helping the students imbibe an understanding of the most difficult concepts. There are also various working models like the AC generator, DC motor, Fortin’s Barometer, sinusoidal wave and elevators that help in teaching abstract concepts better.

The school is always blessed to have an excellent batch of students who develop a keen interest towards the subject – this makes the teaching-learning process a cake walk for the teachers as well as the students.

The General Science and Biology Department comprises of 8 teachers, teaching a range of students from STD 3 to STD 10. The teachers are up to date with their portions and the syllabus is completed on time. Preparation of question papers is equally distributed among us. The teachers prepare powerpoint presentations and use other forms of visual aides to make their teaching interesting. Corrections are up to date as well. Scrutiny of books is done on a regular basis. Textbooks are updated as and when required. Project work is given to students which are graded and the marks are used for tests and exams. Worksheets are done for important topics. We meet often to check the progress of the syllabus, question paper pattern and preparation, topics for projects and other.

The Biology Laboratory

The Biology Laboratory has a sizable collection of well-preserved specimens ranging from butterflies, nests, eggs, birds and models of various organs of the human body. There are a large number of visual aids and exhibits. A well maintained aquarium adds to the charm.The laboratory is equipped with permanent slides of variety of organisms, tissues and cell processes which help students appreciate the structural and functional complexities of life.
