230 THE CLARENCIAN 2024-2025To not have to jump up on tall chairs,And not trip down a high flight of stairs. No one understands the struggles of being short, Like getting lost at the airport it%u2019s my least favourite sport! Missing out on concerts, always stuck at the back, And hunting for shirts that fit it%u2019s a daily attack. To walk with ease through crowded spaces, Without being overlooked in those tight little places. To stand tall and proud without hesitation, And feel the world without limitation. But despite these trials, I hold my ground, In a world too big, I still make my sound. For every struggle, there%u2019s strength in me In this life of a midget, I am truly free. Anishka SweeneyClass 9CThe Mystery of the Lost Socks%u201cWho stole my socks!?%u201d yelled Unwin. He could not go to sleep without them. To Unwin, his socks were as precious as a gem. He searched everywhere, including his drawers, the garbage bags, and every square inch of the house. He even checked the treetops and the orange cat%u2019s litter box. But it was all in vain, as Unwin could not find his socks. He argued with and blamed everyone, including his sister, brother and the family%u2019s little mouse. But still, Unwin could not find his socks. All he could find were half-eaten chocolates and a pair of worn-out rubber Crocs. But Unwin was not willing to give up. He searched high and low, far and wide. He questioned the mailman, the street dog and even the kids going down the slide. He questioned the local chicken farm and the animals resting in the barn. But still, Unwin could not find his socks. Frustrated, Unwin marched up to his room. With a stomp and a thud, he went up the stairs, mumbling and grumbling all the way up there. He sank into his bed and wondered where his socks could have disappeared to, when it suddenly all became very clear.Out the window, resting in the sun's gleam, was a tiny squirrel licking apricots clean. Where did he get them from? The squirrel had stored the apricots in Unwin%u2019s socks, which were now dirty and half-filled with rocks.K. V.
