184 THE CLARENCIAN 2024-2025Once all the men had gathered, the head of the village began telling them a tale. According to him, before there had been any men in the village, it was a snow-clad desert inhabited by horrible creatures called Yetis, but as soon as humans started arriving, they felt threatened by the presence of the Yetis and began hunting them down, until all but one was left. The Yeti that was spared had turned into a ferocious monster and constantly attacked the villagers.The village headman believed its presence was the main cause ofthe village%u2019s misfortunes over the years.Young Sid was in disbelief, but a part of him wondered if it was true. He went to the headman%u2019s cave to learn more about the legend. The village headman gladly welcomed Sid and continued his tale. He explained that the Yeti was a spiritual creature and showed kindness to anyone who helped it. Anything was possible with its powers.Sid realised that the Yeti could be his ticket out of here. Thanking the headman, he set out in search of the Yeti, which, according to the headman, lived at the peak of the mountains. Sid%u2019s courage and determination drove him up the mountain and he scaled it with ease. He soon reached the summit and began searching for the Yeti. After hours of futile effort, he decided to head into a nearby cave to rest.On entering the cave, he saw a large, furry creature, blending in with the snow. It was lying so still, it looked as if it were dead. A pool of bright red blood surrounded it as an arrowhead had pierced its side.
